The piece features the striking Rurisuiteki (瑠璃水滴) glaze. Ruri refers to a deep lapis-blue tone, while suiteki means water droplets. Together, the name describes the mesmerising effect seen across the surface, soft droplet-like patterns appearing against a rich blue glaze, as if water has gently settled upon the porcelain.

These patterns are created through complex interactions of glaze, heat, and minerals during the firing process. Because the transformation happens naturally inside the kiln, no two pieces emerge exactly the same, making each cup uniquely its own.

Shinemon Kiln is widely known for its mastery of the yohen technique - a process where the glaze transforms unpredictably inside the kiln. During firing, heat, minerals, and atmosphere interact in ways that cannot be fully controlled, allowing nature to play a role in shaping the final result. Because of this, each piece develops its own unique pattern and character.
