Each pair may vary slightly due to the nature of the raden inlay and lacquer finish.

These Wakasa chopsticks are crafted in Japan from natural wood and finished with traditional lacquer.

The design is called Kōjin (光陣). The kanji combines , meaning light, and , which can refer to a formation or gathering. Together, the name evokes the image of light coming together in a radiant formation, reflected in the subtle sparkle across the surface.

The delicate sparkling details along the chopsticks are created using raden (螺鈿), a traditional decorative technique where thin pieces of mother-of-pearl shell are carefully inlaid into lacquerware. As light catches the surface, the shell reflects subtle iridescent colours, giving the chopsticks a refined, shimmering effect. The raden decoration is applied to the front side of the chopsticks, while the reverse side is left plain.

These chopsticks are produced in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, the heart of Wakasa lacquer chopstick craftsmanship in Japan. Guided by the philosophy that “chopsticks that go into your mouth are part of your food,” the maker insists on using 100% natural urushi lacquer, applied from the base coat through to the final finish.
