These Wakasa chopsticks are crafted in Japan from natural wood and finished with 100% natural urushi lacquer (本漆).
The design is called Sōkyū (蒼穹), a poetic word that refers to the vast open sky. The name evokes a sense of calmness and openness, reflecting the quiet beauty often found in Japanese aesthetics.
The sparkling details are created using kai-morashi (貝もらし), a traditional raden technique where small fragments of mother-of-pearl shell are scattered across the lacquer surface. As light catches the shell pieces, they reflect delicate iridescent colours, creating an effect reminiscent of a star-filled sky.
These chopsticks are produced in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, the heart of Wakasa lacquer chopstick craftsmanship in Japan. Guided by the philosophy that “chopsticks that go into your mouth are part of your food,” the maker insists on using 100% natural urushi lacquer, applied from the base coat through to the final finish.

What Our Customers Say
Let customers speak for us
from 100 reviewsThis is a beautiful kitchen cloth.
A pleasure to use.
I love mine paired it with gorgeous chopsticks 🫶
Wow! I was fortunate to buy this on special. It reminds me of my holiday in Tokyo. The tea's aroma and tastes no matter how subtle from green tea to matcha comes through so beautifully. It's such a special treat to know there are skilled craftsmen still continuing to make something they are excellent in. It's so humbling. Big thanks.
Great quality. Bought as gift. Thanks.

It's beautiful. Fast delivery. Thanks.
My package arrived packed so well - I was impressed. Items were even better than I expected. Yorokobi is a place I shall return to whenever I have a "I miss Japan" episode!
I bought to try and I must say this towel is marvelous! Buy it, try it, love it!
On my last 2 trips to Japan I found these beautiful Kingfisher sauce dispensers, though in a larger size, but I thought they were expensive. Then I found this smaller one on your website and had to purchase to complete my wonderful memories of Japan. It is the right size for me and Kingfishers have personal meaning for me. It is exactly the quality of those I found in Japan. LOVE my little friend!
These are a perfect size for a rice bowl, not too much, just right. The glaze finish on these bowls is deep and rich.
Love my Daisy Dinner plate! Fast delivery and the item was well wrapped inside. Thanks!
